Fired up at Nathan Hale about Climate Change

Today's walkout at Hale.  From 350 Seattle:

Nathan Hale High School students organized a ‪#‎ClimateStrike‬ walk out today on the first day of Paris talks.

About 100 students with flags signs and banners protested chanting "Climate Justice" and "Solar Power" at a busy intersection. Students who participated told the school, braved the cold, and were marked absent. The student club formed about a month ago.

Now there's Climate justice? Did they give up on social justice?

It appears the cascade bicycle club is now teaching science at Hale.

Yes, there's evidence to show our climate is changing, but little proof man is the cause. Our weather patterns are 100% controlled by our sun's activity. No amount of Carbon can influence the vast amount of variations in solar activity and effect global climate.

Global warming HOAX unravels... globalist science fraud engineered to control humanity, not save it.

What most people don't realize is, CO2 is the building blocks of plants and the more Co2 the better the environment is for plants and trees to grow.

Deforestation is far worst than Co2 and deforestation will cause micro climate changes. Do you really want to help?...plant a tree and don't let a developer or cattle rancher cut it down.

Deforestation leads to massive salmon die-off, unshaded creeks and river temperatures rise due to increased radiant energy. Trees and plants are natural water reservoirs and comb the atmosphere to collect water. When water temps rise salmon stay out of their spawning habitat and die without spawning. We have just experienced the worst Salomon return even and it was cause by the destruction of habitat and not Co2.

Law of conservation of matter - a fundamental principle of classical physics that matter cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system. I guess if you move matter off the planet it's no longer isolated, but we are not doing that on a scale which is relevant. There's a cycle of Co2 sequestration and release which has been going on for millions of years. Look it up.

The solid Earth contains a huge quantity of carbon, far more than scientists estimate is present in the atmosphere or oceans. Volcanoes produce more CO2 than industry when they are not erupting and even larger amounts in a major eruption. Co2 is not the problem! The system produces Co2 for a purpose and that purpose is to provide it to plants.

We must bring back art classes to SPS, so these kids have something constructive to
do.

Fuzzy logic
Fuzzy, good luck with that.

We are so lucky to have this anonymous expert on, let's see, climatology, forestry, fish habitats, physics, what else? geology? posting here on this little old Seattle schools blog. Why hide your no doubt impressive academic and professional credentials under a pseudonym? Reveal yourself so that we may properly shower you with accolades!

Fuzzy, you would not be passing my biology class. Your understanding is fuzzy, indeed.

Really Josh? Plants use the energy in sunlight to convert CO2 and water to sugar and oxygen.

The sugars comprise the cell walls in the form of Cellulose. I understand the need to balance H2o and nitrogen levels. The carbon in Co2 is a 6 carbon molecule of #C_6H_12O_6#. Cellulose is a specialized sugar that is classified as a structural carbohydrate and not used for energy.

Forest sequester large amounts of these carbon molecules, there is no argument around this fact.

"The Earth’s atmosphere is composed of about 0.04% carbon dioxide (CO2). In order to understand the cycling of carbon in forest ecosystems, the processes of photosynthesis and respiration first need to be understood. Forest ecosystems remove CO2 from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis. In this process, green leaves utilize energy captured from sunlight to chemically combine water and carbon dioxide to produce sugars and oxygen. The sugars are used to produce carbon-based cellulose, the primary structural component of all plant cells. As a result, the carbon is tied up in all of a tree’s tissues – in its roots, stems, and leaves."

Forest provide earth shading resulting in less H2o evaporation, Forest comb the air producing drip irrigation to the forest floor. 100s of thousands of species depend on there being viable forest ecosystems, yes even marine life depend on inland and coastal forest.

Again, there is more proof that deforestation is what is driving ecosystem destruction and surface temperature increase is due to sun activity plus deforestation and NOT Co2 from industry.

Exactly what biology do you teach?

Oh, Fuzzy. You make me wish I weren't trying to control my snarky side.

You just managed to crib a definition for cellulose that matches word-for-word with that found on a kids' biology website. Usually, people who have a solid understanding of a topic are able to explain things in their own words.

You compounded that by quoting an entire paragraph (without giving attribution, which would get your grade knocked down for plagiarism) from a website that completely disagrees with you. Here's the source for your quote above about how forests sequester carbon: The Earth’s atmosphere is composed of about 0.04% carbon dioxide (CO2). In order to understand the cycling of carbon in forest ecosystems...

And here's a statement from the same website:
"Is there still legitimate scientific debate on the validity of the concept of whether or not global warming is caused by human activity? ANSWER: No, there is no longer any legitimate scientific debate on the validity of the concept of whether or not global warming is caused by human activity. When a sampling was done of the peer-reviewed articles in the science which mentioned the words climate change, 100% of them agreed with the basic philosophy that humans are responsible for the majority of climate change…not a single one expressed doubt. But when a survey was done of articles in the popular media (newspapers, magazines), 53% expressed doubt as to the causes of climate change. The journalists of the popular media have done us an enormous disservice by misleading and confusing us!"

Found here: What Do You Know About Global Warming?

This is why we need better science education - we have so many scientifically illiterate people in this country who think...fuzzily.

Crib ? Well ok I did copy some of that text, but why should I waste time just to paraphrase the most commonly learned biological process?

Substitute Josh did not elaborate why I would not pass his high school biology class. BTW way Josh, I would repeat verbatim every word of that photosynthesis passage on your exam and ace it.

It's not liberal arts!, paraphrase, how ridiculous.

Back to my correct point, deforestation has move negative impact on our climate than Co2 from cars. Solar activity has greatly more influence on earth's temperature than Co2 from cars. If you don't understand, then I don't see the point of continuing this discussion.

As for Hale students, I invite them to research the environmental impacts of producing solar panels and other green tech. I think people would be surprised by the various extremely toxic byproducts created in each manufacturing process.

Want to save our planet, go plant trees. Want to kill it, go produce 4,093 billion kilowatthours of electricity with solar panels.

I am so sorry. I should know better by now than to feed the trolls. My students really do understand the carbon cycle, though Mr. Logic apparently does not. Best of luck, sir.

Fuzzy Logic, if you intend to engage here, you are off to a horrible start. Why are you attacking everybody? Chill out. Argue your point respectfully.
Jeez...it ain't rocket science.
Thanks for bumming me out. Have we sunk so low?
