Press Release From District IV Candidate

(Editor's note: I reprint without comment except to note the use of Comic Sans.)

WOW!  I have won the Seattle School Board Primary Election on 1 August 2017 as the 2nd place winner!

Please note that the Seattle School Board District 4 Primary Election Results from Tuesday, 1 August 2017
are now completed and I, Herbert J. Camet, Jr., am officially elected to the General Election in November 2017 as the 2nd place candidate out of the seven (7) candidates standing for Seattle School Board District 4!
This primary election victory was accomplished and achieved by me alone as I had no financial funds nor local corporate media nor local political party organizations endorsements or funding whatever.

And I was in Lahore, Pakistan for a new K-12 school setup project for the past 4 weeks of this primary election campaign, and I missed all the local Seattle campaign events for the entire month of July!  But I did do the local election interviews and endorsement meetings in June 2017.

Now I will be in the General Election in November 2017 against the other candidate, a local 45-year-old too typical zombie schooling system female bureaucrat with all the corporate business, corporate media, and local corporate oligarchy politicians supporting her.
We have these 3 months (August, September, & October) to save and reform and redevelop the Seattle  schools system for our children & youth & parents & community.

We need you and your support and assistance and efforts now to reform and redevelop Seattle public education to enable all our children and youth to be all they can be, and to serve as a model of authentic learner-based learner-centered instructional classroom experiences where the learners are the doers, actors, and participants in their own learning discoveries and understandings, not the dumbed down passive spectators in the classroom environment the outmoded and unnatural "public education bureaucracy" has imposed upon our innocent learners for far too long.

Please give me your support and assistance in this essential political candidacy effort to reform and redevelop our K-12 public education.
Best wishes,
 Herb Camet, Jr.
Seattle School Board District 4

Well he sounds even more like a right charmer now, doesn't he? A boorish man hurling crass, uncalled-for insults at a woman. For that alone, he is unfit for public office in my book, though there are many other factors, too.

Elect Eden Mack. She knows what she's doing, she cares, and she will be an excellent school board director. And she's unfailingly polite, gracious and respectful to other people. I say this as someone who's worked directly with her. She's who our school board needs.

Hmmm. Me thinks Jr. doesn't really want to be on the board but rather than graciously withdraw, he gives voters numerous reasons to vote for Eden Mack.

I agree with Sped Staffer. He needs to crawl back under his rock and we need to ignore him.

Junior's "female" comment really bothers me. Vote for the mom!!!

ADORING the Comic Sans dis. Thanks, MW.

What a completely graceless missive. I'm appalled, especially as I have always found Ms. Mack as smart to the point of wonkiness, forthright, and honest. And while she might currently have all of the typical Seattle support structures behind her, I think she has earned them.

I'll be voting for Eden Mack.

It really doesn't matter who wins, the joke's always on the students.

Has anyone verified that his email wasn't hacked? This is too over the top...
Catherine, it's the same email he has been using. And, this is very much how he talks (I interviewed him on the phone).

It's also the same language as on his website. At least he's consistent.

Scratching my head, though, about the 8% who voted for him...

unclear

Here's what Mr. Camet has to say about Seattle educators. I can't imagine this would help him win their vote...

Ballotpedia Herb Camet

https://ballotpedia.org/Herbert_Camet_Jr.

"I also specifically object to and personally challenge any School Board candidate currently serving or working for Seattle schools in any job or role, including as a teacher, as these candidates have a vested special interest in the existing ‘schooling system bureaucracy’, and are themselves system bureaucrats who have a direct personal monetary, financial, and retirement pension interest in maintaining the failing public education system while enriching their own pockets at the expense of our youth and their parents and our community who receive inadequate, inappropriate, and unprofessional services from these same schooling system employees & teachers. These bureaucratic teachers and employees of the Seattle public education system victimize and cheat their own students for their personal profit and aggrandizement..."

Wow... well... if that's his consistent message... then I guess he wasn't hacked.

The shame is only that we need to wait until November to get Eden Mack on the board.

And Goodspaceguy received 14,000+ votes.

A protest vote vs. an asshole vote is not comparable.

And exactly what do you think Mack will accomplish? She will be one of a long line of chicken littles that combined effort hasn't amounted to anything measurable.

Poking fingers in leaks in a dike is the best we have seen from the past 10 years of these supposed saviors.

Reality
Actually I think you can point to several things Mack has accomplished in her other roles. Go look at her website.

I'm sure she has, but that doesn't mean she will transform the district. She seems to think money is the answer to all problems and in some districts it's clear that more money is needed, but that's is not the case for Seattle school district.

I could compile a list of current and former directors of that archetype and the lack of improvements and broken campaign promises under their watch, but no one is really into accountability around here.

It obvious she should easily be elected, but there's is nothing she can do about SPS funding or cost control by herself.

Will she take on excessive administrative spending?

Reality
Reality, school board is a team sport so no one director can act on his/her own accord. They can offer ideas, solutions and build coalitions to pass policy and approve budgets for those ideas.

And again, go ask her if she will take on excessive adm spending? The only person I know who really took on that issue was Alec Cooper and he doesn't seem to be winning in his district.

Bingo and thats why the entire board should be held accountable.

Regarding hopelessness for change: I've seen Eden ride District staff, holding them accountable for broken promises. She asks tough questions and she carefully considers every angle and ramification. A new Super will be selected and that is a perfect opportunity to reign in spending and improve lawlessness and the current culture of disregard (disdain?) for families. It will take the entire board to make change, so electing strong leaders in every corner of our district is important. I am optimistic knowing Burke, Patu, Mack and Leslie will be working together (and thanks Dir Peters for great leadership), but the other district areas need to sharpen their pencils and show up for our kids.

Some of you need to watch your tone. Make a point without being snide and unpleasant.

If drinking a glass of wine (cocktail?? Don't remember) at a WPD fundraiser with Harris and Geary on the other side of the room counts--once, but to answer your question: I do not socialize over wine with board members. I hit the community meetings during boundary discussions and that's the best I could do to try to reach board members and district decision makers. Life is busy. Feeling inappropriately called out for backing Mack, must have hit a nerve.

I must have missed it the first time but one reader took this post off-topic and so I deleted most of the comments around that. Please don't do that for the sake of topic continuity.

Either ask for a topic to receive a thread or don't comment at all.

Eden Mack has been tracking enrollment numbers, McCleary (missing) funds, and wonky facts for several years now; she make them known to the board to help get attention to what needs to be changed. If anyone can help the board get the district focused, I believe Eden can. Of course, the district is big enough that perhaps changing course is less likely that some small course corrections. I'd trust her to call it out as she sees it.

@FixAl

Please don't take it personally. The commenter most known as FWIW seems to take personal offense unless anything other than education rationing is advocated.

It doesn't have anything to do with your support of any individual candidate.

F'ded up for sure
