Still a Heads Up on that School Bus Driver Strike

From the district (bold mine):
Fri., Nov. 3, 2017 Update: First Student and the bus driver’s union are still in negotiations. We encourage you to check your email and the district website daily for updates. If a strike is called, we will alert you by email, phone, website, social media and local broadcast news.

We are closely monitoring labor talks between our bus provider and their employees’ union so we can inform families of any potential impacts to yellow school bus service. We continue to encourage both sides to settle their contractual issue without impacting bus service for our students.

We have no confirmed or potential bus driver strike date; however, we have been notified that the strike may be imminent. We may not be given much warning of a strike, and that could mean no buses at the start or end of the school day.

In an abundance of caution, families should consider transportation options if there is a strike. Some ideas include using available Metro or establishing carpools and walking school buses. To learn more about establishing a walking school bus, contact Yvonne Carpenter at ylcarpenter@seattleschools.org or 206-252-0907.

Schools are also developing ways they can support families who rely on yellow bus service. Because these plans are specific to each school, this information will be sent home with students and available on the school’s website. We will provide more information through the website, School Messenger and social media if impacts are expected.

I'm standing with the district on this issue. The district signed a contract with the bus company. It is up to the bus company to honor the contract.
