Now what??? The CIA, is slated to limit access to many post-secondary programs... rendering it almost worthless. And pretty worthless if you're really ELL.

Health Impairment = ADHD/ADD.

At least, most people in the Health Impairment category are ADHD because there is no ADHD category... which is why the category is so large. True ADHD presents without cognitive impairment. So, it's pretty bad if these people are failing to graduate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28765366.post-87824682690220507962007-11-30T10:46:00.000-08:002007-11-30T10:46:00.000-08:00The GED. It covers a broad range of subjects, in depth, is generally considered pretty fair, and has been used to grant high school diplomas for years.

Why don't we just scrap the 10th grade WASL, and make all high school diploma-seekers take the GED?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28765366.post-47424374124191228202007-11-29T21:38:00.000-08:002007-11-29T21:38:00.000-08:00But if a special education student earns a CIA and...But if a special education student earns a CIA and meets the other requirements (min gpa, credits), he or she gets a diploma and graduates. That isn't worthless in comparison to getting nothing.

Am excuse me for asking, but what do you mean by "cognitively normal or better?" Last I checked, the vast majority of students with disabilities have health imparments that impact thier ability to gain an education, which certainly much broader than being a student that has a cognative issueAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28765366.post-60985032897274497872007-11-29T20:44:00.000-08:002007-11-29T20:44:00.000-08:00Being treated like a special ed students isn't rea...Being treated like a special ed students isn't really all that great. First of all, 93% fail either the WASL or the WAAS. And 70% of them are cognitively normal or better... so that's a huge number of kids who aren't going to graduate that should be graduating. 2% of all students in special education are permitted to take the WAAS and get a worthless diploma. It is the so-called "Certificate of Individual Acheivement". Not at all the same as a "Certificate of Academic Acheivement". No ELL student would want that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
