Here's the agenda for tonight's Board meeting. I note that people can no longer sign up to speak at a Board meeting by phone. It is strictly by online sign-up. Not good. Public Testimony seems to cover two topics. Apparently, the Chinese program at West Seattle High School is in jeopardy and there are several speakers for that issue. The other issue is, of course, school closures. There are six people on the waitlist. Here's the latest from the Times which says that " Seattle Could Close about a quarter of its elementary schools." First, that would be a heck of a lot of schools (17) and two, only elementaries? My cynical side is that the district is throwing out a big number so they can "generously" only close 10-12. The article claims that the district is taking "$32M from its reserves" which is not true; they have no reserves. I think the reporter means capital reserves. I'll be tuning in with updates. 4:15 pm and has the 4:15

The wake up call at 6:20am was pretty awful. I don't have any middle or HS kids, so I didn't even need the info.

I guess this means the meeting at Ingraham tonight is probably also kaput?
And you guys were dissing the autodialer. See how well it builds community? :-)
That was REALLY irritating.
"Monday, Nov. 22 - Middle and High Schools will Dismiss Early at 12:35 p.m.; All activities after 12:35 p.m. are CANCELLED
Since weather conditions are predicted to continue to change throughout the day and additional snow is expected, we have decided to end all Seattle Public Schools activities as of 12:35 p.m. today.
That means:
1. Middle school and high school students will be dismissed at 12:35 p.m. as announced early this morning.
2. No parent-teacher conferences will be held at elementary and K-8 schools after 12:35 p.m.
3. No after-school or evening activities.
4. Tonight's Student Assignment Transition Plan Northwest region meeting at Ingraham High School tonight has been canceled and will be rescheduled.
We will monitor conditions closely overnight and make a decision by 5:30 a.m. tomorrow morning about operations for Tuesday."
At first, I liked the idea of the robocalls, when they were just for closures or early dismissals that weren't scheduled ahead of time. But now they are using them 4-5 times a week.
Districts (like mayors, apparently) are screwed by snow around here. They are criticized whether they cancel or hold events in these conditions.
