No Matter What the Rhetoric, the Question Remains: Is Nyland the One?

The Times had a brief article last night when the news broke about the one-week extension for public input on the appointment of Superintendent Nyland to be the permanent superintendent which has now expanded and there are some very interesting quotes. The action slated for a special meeting of the board on December 10 at 4:30 p.m.  The Times says the Board hasn't decided if they will allow comments. - apparently there will be discussion at the Board meeting Wenesday when this is introduced.  (Normally, the discussion at Intro is limited so we'll have to see.) - The district has this e-mail for "interested parties" to weigh in - SchoolBoard@seattleschools.org . - The Times notes that Nyland came from Marysville, serving nine years there.  I'm finding some very telling stories out of Marysville that may be clues to the kind of superintendent he may be. - Peaslee said the board usually introduces and votes on superintendent job offers in the same meeting...

Coffee Chat with Enfield at the Library is Full

FYI,  I just received a notice that the coffee chat with Dr. Enfield at the Central Library tomorrow is FULL.  They will only be allowing people in who RSVPed.   Do not go if you didn't RSVP or are not on the waiting list.  I hadn't noticed but this event is being put together by the Alliance for Education.

Urgent ! Sign up to Speak at Board Meeting

Look folks, if you are really worried/upset/frustrated over the TFA process, you have got to sign up to speak at the Board meeting this Wednesday. I feel certain there will be plenty of "go TFA" people. Use whatever I wrote if you feel like you don't know how to state it. I have word that SEA is NOT happy and they have quite a lot to say including some good suggestions about what the district should be doing. E-mail boardagenda@seattleschools.org or call 252-0040 to get on the list. It is likely to be crowded but they have been clearing the waitlist as of the last two meetings. FYI, the Superintendent has the last of her coffee chats this week. Monday from 6-7 p.m. at Mercer Middle School Tuesday from 8:10-10a.m. at North Beach Elementary School (I just noticed that all the evening ones were 1 hour and the daytime ones were about 2 hours.)
