Seattle Schools This Week

Here's a link to the district's Spring Bell Time Adjustment Volunteer List Survey.   Several schools have indicated that they have been having ongoing conversations about participating in a Spring Bell Time Adjustment Volunteer List, with some having already coalesced around a preference. Other schools have asked for additional support to make this decision including an online survey. This survey is available from January 6, 2016 to January 22, 2016 for parents and staff to provide feedback on whether there is a preference for an earlier tier, or to remain in the 3rd tier. If you are a 3rd Tier School (List the schools) Please take a few minutes to complete the following questions on your preference for your school start time.

Bell Times in Seattle Schools: Where Are We?

Where we are today? There have been two of the district's four School Bell Times Community discussion events.  (Anyone go to New Holly on Tuesday night or Garfield on Thursday night?)  I reported back on what I saw and heard at Hamilton. The district has chosen to NOT go with the Taskforce's top picks, citing the Taskforce's agreement with the district on transportation costs.  I would like anyone on the Taskforce who might be reading this to contact me (sss.westbrook@gmail.com) and let me know if this is completely accurate.  This is only what I heard from the district. The last discussion event is on Tuesday, May 12th at Chief Sealth at 7:00 pm  I'll just state a couple of things that I believe.

Bell Times Forum at Hamilton International Middle School

So sleep has restored my energy - here's what I heard and saw last night, starting with the two main takeaways.

Bell Times Survey Now Up

From SPS Communications: As part of the Seattle Public Schools Bell Time Analysis, we would like staff to provide their input on how a bell time change could potential impact them. The survey asks respondents to identify a number of factors that could be affected, either positively or negatively, by a change in the start and end times of the school day. Three options meant to solicit feedback are offered within the survey. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and let Seattle Public Schools know what you think about changing bell times. If a Parent of a current student, click here . If not a parent of a current student and member of the community, click here . If a staff member of Seattle Public Schools, click here . If you are both a staff member and a parent of a Seattle Public Schools student, please take both the staff and parent survey, as there are specific questions for each role.   For more information on the bell time study, visit bellt...
