A very busy week. Tuesday, Oct. 21st SPS College Application event at Garfield High School from 2:30 pm-5:30 pm College Application Events provide one-on-one support for high school seniors navigating the college application process. At these events, students receive help researching colleges, filling out applications, and drafting personal statements. Volunteers, including local college admissions officers, are on site to provide support with college applications and answer questions. Note: there will be several more of these events in the coming weeks at high schools thruout SPS.

Update: listening to the NPR story this morning, I heard a few interesting things about this story like: - David Coleman, the head of the SAT, says it will be better aligned to what is being taught in high school.  Fair enough, until you learn that he helped write the CC standards.  Oh. - also, apparently historically, the SAT was NOT supposed to follow high school curriculum End of update. For one thing, the SAT essay will be optional by 2016 - there's a big change.   The SAT essay will have to have accurate data and facts to support the essay which leads me to believe that somehow the essay topics must be given out.  How else can any student have facts at their fingertips broad enough to cover whatever is thrown at them? One article is about the growing number of colleges and universities that are admitting students but not right away; the student has to wait for a semester or even a year.  The admission is gauged on the student going to another college or university and maintaining a certain GPA.
