As we all know, trying to understand how gifted education in SPS is presented is a losing proposition.  The District has this three-tier system that, on paper, looks somewhat orderly.  But, brush off the cobwebs on this old plan, and you find that:

A great story from Huffington Post on the " Buddy Bench ."   Second-grader Christian Bucks, of York, Pa., knew that some of his classmates felt lonely during recess , and he decided to do something about it. His simple, utterly heartwarming solution was to install a playground "buddy bench."  As reported by the York Daily Record, a buddy bench is a designated seating area where students feeling lonely or upset can seek camaraderie . The area is customarily painted in bright, inviting colors. Christian told the Record that he hopes the bench will help "grow our dream circle of friends." Twice-Exceptional Children

For Bright Students with Disabilities and Learning Differences Please come to a community meeting to learn more about bright students who have disabilities and school difficulties, known as "Twice-Exceptional". Date: Monday, November 16th Time: 7-9pm Location: Hamilton International Middle School at Lincoln High School in the Library 4400 Interlake Ave. N., Seattle, 98103 This meeting is open to all parents of students at all grade levels. If you have a student currently in Advanced Learning programs, APP or Spectrum, AP classes, or the IB program, who also has a 504 plan, Special Ed IEP, or has difficulties in school due to medical or learning issues, it is important for you to attend.
