Forgot one interesting piece of news; the City has extended the deadline for families to apply for their Preschool Program from July 31st to August 10th.  What? Families aren't breaking down the doors for this "high-quality" preschool?  I note that ALL the classrooms for the City program are indeed in Seattle Schools. The College Board got quite the battle over AP History and apparently more conservative interests won.  From Huffington Post:

Fun at Teacher Appreciation Day at Arbor Heights Elementary.      I happened to be checking what schools require uniforms (I believe there are only 3-4 elementaries).  K-5 STEM is one of them.  From their webpage, the school certainly has quite a different feel to it.  For example, they have four sections to their Uniforms page and the FAQ is really long and fairly strict.  I can only say that you would have a problem getting most kids on the autism spectrum to abide by these rules (they say they make a case-by-case exception for kids with special needs).  Also, to put on your calendar, there will be a showing of the film, " Standardized; Lies, Money and Civil Rights, How Testing is Ruining Public Education" on Wednesday, May 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the NW Film Forum.  The movie is free and sponsored by Seattle Education and Parents Across America, Seattle. K-5 STEM at Boren

A request was made for a thread about issues at the new K-5 STEM school at Boren .  Among the issues: - Parents signed their children up for STEM before they knew it was requiring uniforms. They gave up their spots at their neighborhood schools and are now forced to go to a school requiring uniforms. - Is there a name for this school yet?  (Not that it matters) - Did anyone talk to McDonald or Viewlands or the other schools that reopened to ask their advice about forming a community? Parents?

Uniforms in Elementary Schools

Per a request, a thread of its own. (I don't think I'll start a separate thread for APP PCP time as Andrew S. has created a new Seattle APP Elementary School Discussion Blog, located at http://discussapp.blogspot.com/ . The only reason is just because it is discussion related to only one school. However, if enough people want it, I'll put it in later today.) (Don't we love snow days?!)
