Devastating Story about the Gun Used in Ingraham Killing

KUOW does a very good job with this story. It's very good reporting from Isolde Raftery and Ashley Hiruko.

This is the story of a gun.

It begins with a 14-year-old boy showing it off.

It ends with another boy dying in a high school hallway.

Kow what might make a difference in the future? If the gun owner who has kids in his home had secured his gun under RCW 9.41.360. Since he appears not to have done that, the law SHOULD be enforced. Every single gun law needs enforcement.

If your firearm is not in secure storage, and you knew or reasonably should have known that the firearm could be accessed by someone who is prohibited from possessing a firearm, such as a child, under some circumstances you may be charged with a crime.

If a prohibited individual accesses an improperly stored firearm, the firearm owner could be charged with:

  • Community Endangerment in the First Degree is a Class C felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
  • Community Endangerment in the Second Degree is a Gross Misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine.

I'm blaming the gun manufacture, no wait I'm blaming the mining company that provided the iron for the gun. Yes its the miner's fault.

Get Real, you are just being silly and trying to deflect from the gun owner's neglect that has now led to a tragic event.

Of coarse I'm being silly. There is lot's of blame to go around but it's not the legal gun owners fault that someone committed murder. Maybe you have more evidence proving how a crime was committed by the gun owner? Do all legal gun owners even know about the safe storage law? I would say no, is that a defense, yes it is. BTW I would hope a 15 year old would know about the dangers of firearms but I fear that the glorification of guns by social media and Hollywood probably has set back gun safety 50 years.

I suggest you wait and see all the facts before jumping to conclusions.

A child is dead, a whole school district is rattled, and shrugging off common sense laws to prevent this exact thing is gross. Law and order goes both ways. You own or possess a gun, you follow the law. Your trolling of this topic is t cute.

Stop
No one is saying it's the legal gun owner's fault that a murder was committed.

I'm saying he did not secure his gun under the law (and for Pete's sake, I gave you the RCW) and I believe he should be punished for that. And ignorance of the law will not save you in any court.

Get Real, Ignorance of the law is not a defense. If a prosecutor had to prove a defendant was aware of the law before they could be convicted, no one could ever be convicted of anything. The laws are published, that's enough.
