Seattle Schools Announces School Board Director Applicants

SPS webpage for candidates

D2 - Lisa Rivera's seat

 D4 - Vivian Song's seat

Fascinating that D2 has 16 candidates while D4 has only 4. That may reflect the churn in D4 that may have kept some candidates away.

I see that the Board gave applicants seven questions to answer so I have a lot of reading to do. I will put this current info up and then update as I plow through the answers.

I see a couple of familiar names in D2.

Ramona Hattendorf - former SCPTSA president, former policy and government relations lead for the state PTA and longtime advocate for Special Education. Hattendorf knows this district very well and would not have a big learning curve.

Janai Ray - ran in the last election but was not a visible candidate.

In D4, I know Laura Marie Rivera who previously ran against Song and came in second. That's a vote of confidence straight from voters and I hope that the Board considers that. Rivera knows the district.

Laura Marie Rivera came in second, but only got 27% of the vote. And everyone knew about Vivian Song's sketchy residency at the time, since it was covered by you, the Stranger, and the Seattle Times. I don't think that's a vote of confidence for Laura Marie. Also, check out her Facebook page. Manuela Slye has a lot of gushy comments there for Laura Marie Rivera. Disappointing that she has apparently kissed the SCPTSA ring. — Queen Anne parent

With two maybe three exceptions, everyone thinks this is a neat cake walk resume add, is a tech exec, or another shill for the construction unions. Can we have someone who has actually cared about education outside the last 5 minutes? Wake me when it’s over.
