Seattle Schools Principals' Shift

Update #3

Looks like Licton Springs K-8 is getting a new principal. Not sure where the current one is going.

Update #2

It appears that the principal at Cleveland, Catherine Brown, is being replaced because the district says she disobeyed a directive about withholding COVID info from families. She says this in a letter to parents.  Gotta say, it's quite brave of her to say this publicly while still being investigated.

It also appears that the district is very much clamping down on messaging from school leaders. Control of the narrative is always important to most orgs but this could have a chilling effect on what principals believe is the right info to give to parents/students and what the district wants them to say.

Update #1

  • We already knew that Greenwood ES is losing its principal but now I can report that Orca K-8, Daniel Bagley ES and Concord International ES are also losing their principals. Not sure if they are assigned elsewhere yet.
  • Also to note, Erin Romanuk, long-time Student Support Services Supervisor for Behavior and Discipline is leaving SPS.

end of update

Going to keep a running list here so do let me know if you have something to add to the list of principals leaving SPS/moving within SPS.

What I have seen so far:

  • Roosevelt High School - Tami Brewer is the principal with former principal Que Hollins leaving SPS.
  • Robert Eagle Staff MS - Apparently both principal, Dr. Marni Campbell, and assistant principal, Katrina Pearl, are both leaving. Greenwood Elementary principal  Zach Stowell will be replacing Campbell. The announcement at the SPS website said Campbell and Pearl will have other assignments within SPS.
  • Ballard High School is still advertising for a new principal.

Ballard actually has to find an entirely new admin team. In the fall, there were 4. Keven Wynkoop left in Nov and is now reassigned. Dr. Williams took over, but he is leaving-perhaps to Franklin. Liz Guillory went on leave in Jan or so and will not return. Laura Roesner is rumored to be leaving as well. -FormerTeacher

Campbell is headed to Cleveland and Pearl to Sand Point, according to those schools’ websites.
Seems like a lot of admin change - is this more than usual?
Marni Campbell has had so many jobs around the district, it makes me dizzy.

There is always principal movement this time of year. However, the vibe I am getting is that the district is trying to chessboard these principals around because of principals either leaving or being let go. I have to wonder where Wynkoop will end up.

SPS should really just retire Marni Campbell out of the district. I wonder if she will treat the high school students at Cleveland in the same patronizing and toxic positivity manner that she treated the middle schoolers at Eagle Staff while wearing a pink sparkle backpack filled with candy. Those Cleveland parents should keep watch if they want to keep STEM intact. It would seem the district is going backwards with her. As for Wynkoop, any school would be lucky to have him, including Ballard.

Marni Campbell was - is - a terrible school leader. Good news for RESMS which might finally have a chance at thriving now that she's gone. But troubling news for Cleveland HS.

Save SPS

In addition to Ms. Brewer, Ingraham is losing John Houston, who will be the principal at Whitman Middle School.

The district is replacing the new principal of Cleveland, who has been with the school for *18* years, with Marni Campbell. The staff heard about it 2 days ago at an all staff meeting held by the district. Something fishy is up.

Franklin has all 3 admins leaving.

The fall 2020 hiring of TCG to assist the FHS RET (Race and Equity Team) in instituting her version of the ethnic inquisition did a fabulous job of cowing and demonizing people who had and kind of questions which weren't approved by The Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition.

The admin team was such a stunning success at making life actually better for poor kids that - they're all gone after 2 years of looking under beds for communists!

I agree w/the comments about Marni Campbell.

Marni Campbell should never have been allowed back into the district let alone given a leadership position after this:Seattle Schools settles sex-abuse case for nearly $250K

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/seattle-schools-settles-sex-abuse-case-for-nearly-250k/

From the article:
Originally published March 6, 2015 at 6:58 pm
Seattle Public Schools has agreed to pay a former student nearly $250,000 to settle a lawsuit she filed claiming the school district failed to adequately investigate her complaints of sexual misconduct by her sixth-grade computer teacher.

A 22-year-old woman recently settled a lawsuit she filed against Seattle Public Schools over the alleged sexual comments and abuse she suffered as a 12-year-old at the hands of her computer teacher at Nathan Eckstein Middle School.

The alleged victim was assigned to a sixth-grade computer class taught by David Wysen, an educator for more than two decades, according to her suit. He allegedly made comments about the sixth-grader’s body and ogled her in class, subjecting her to teasing from classmates who called her “the teacher’s crush,” according to court records.

She also accused Wysen of pinning her to a wall and pressing his body against hers, the records say.

She reported Wysen’s comments and touching in January 2005, telling her school counselor and principal that she felt uncomfortable and threatened by Wysen’s attention and his attempts to get her to meet with him after school, according to the records. Her suit claimed the principal, Marni Campbell, conducted a cursory investigation and failed to remove the girl from Wysen’s class or take other corrective action.

According to the plaintiff’s deposition in the suit, Campbell suggested the girl needed counseling and was making the complaints to get attention.

She was a bad principal at Eaglestaff, a terrible principal at Eckstein and now she's assigned to Cleveland, where Superintendent Brent Jones' own kid graduated? Why would he ruin his own kid's alma mater with such a terrible hire?

Campbell was a crappy Special Education Executive Director too, according to this: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/not-so-special-treatment-in-seattle-of-special-education/
Not-so-special treatment in Seattle of special education

In the real world, people like this would be FIRED - not promoted.

Thank you for the negative post about Marni Campbell. I agree and will go on to say, she is a horrible person. She tried to do damage to my life when I worked for her. I feel sorry for any person who might need her help or has to be in her presence. She is a very angry person.

I could write chapter and verse on Marni Campbell. She has made our life a nightmare - and we are pretty reasonable and patient parents. Never ever had we had a principal so duplicitous, cowardly, incompetent and hypocritical- and my child had attended 3 other schools before he had the misfortune of landing in Robert Eagle Staff MS. So glad Marni would not be ruining anyone's life as a principal at least in the near future. Please never ever put her in any position of authority again - she is woefully infit.

Now Marni Campbell is working on destroying the relationship between the district and the bus companies.

Putting MC forward as the face of the current school closing project is quite questionable given the curious history of underachievement in past leadership positions.
