Bad News - Assistant Principal Arrested in September for "Prostitution"

Update 2:

I have the charging document on Alexander Diaz Rios. He is charged with "patronizing a Prostitute" on September 27, 2024.

This incident appears to be part of a coordinated raid by Renton PD to catch those who solicit sex with children.

The charging statement makes no reference to the age of the prostitute but, if that is the case for Diaz Rios, the charge could be amended.

Update: Seattle Schools issues a statement. I note that this is not available at the website or on Facebook.

"Seattle Public Schools (SPS) entered into a separation agreement this month with Alex Diaz Rios who was charged with prostitution. Upon learning of the charges, SPS acted swiftly to place the individual on leave on Wednesday, Nov. 13. He has resigned and will not be returning to SPS."

"On Thursday, Dec. 5, a law firm hired by SPS made a public records request to the City of Renton for documents to learn more about the prostitution charge, but at no time prior to today was the district made aware that the charge may have involved a minor.  SPS contacted the Office of Professional Practices last week and will be making a formal referral for the state to review Diaz Rios’ professional licensure."

"The district’s top priority is the safety and well-being of students, and SPS will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure a safe learning environment for all."

Clear as mud, right? When did the district learn of his arrest? When they found out he was arrested, it didn't occur to them to ask what for and what were the circumstances (given he works with children)?

That means he was working in a building with children at the start of the school year.

It's unclear to me why the district is spending money on outside counsel to make a public records request. It's not rocket science.

This comes via KVI host Ari Hoffman's Twitter page:

7 men were arrested in a child sex-trafficking operation in Renton, WA & "one suspect who was a vice principal in the @SeaPubSchools was arrested for prostitution"

This was in Sept & no one knew until today because the media is dead & doesn't have crime beat reporters anymore.

The SPS employee is Alex Diaz Rios who worked as an assistant principal/504 coordinator at TOPS K-8. SPS has taken down his page but you can see it in a search.

Rios was also a member of the Portland Community College Board of Directors in Oregon, representing Zone 7 beginning on 7/1/19 but left office on 6/30/21.

This is an elected office in Oregon and he had endorsements from various elected included board directors from the Hillsboro School Board.

What I can add is that this video in the tweet is from the Renton PD and narrated by an undercover detective.

I have a call in to RPD to clarify the prostitution charge.

Wow! I see a couple articles that say he was communicating with police posing as a young girl. It looks like his linkedin has been deleted but below is text copied from what still appears on google. It's going to be difficult to find another job in a school, even he is not required to register as an offender!
