Program Placement Proposals due Nov 6

The Program Placement web page has been updated. With only a few days notice it provides an updated Program Placement Proposal form and a deadline of November 6 for program placement proposal submission. The form was created on 11/2/09 - just four days before the deadline. Nice.

Get those proposals written and submitted without delay.

Also, according to slide 26 of the presentation made to the board on November 3:
Program placement process is changing
There was no discussion about how it was changing or even why.

What does this mean for the "new" schools? In the academic section, the SPS website lists the following "programs":

Advanced Learning
Athletics
Arts
Career & Technical Education
Huchoosedah Indian Education
Instructional Services
Instructional Technology
International Education
Internet Safety
Library Services
Literacy Resources/Language Arts
Math
Migrant Education
Physical Education
Program Placement
PSAT
Science
Science Materials Center
Social Studies
Special Education
Summer Semester
Traffic Education

Does this mean that if, for example, Sand Point Elementary expects a library, that a request has to be made?

Is there a "minimum", "baseline" or anything the like for a school to open?
Well, that's a good question because Michael did ask about a library at Sand Point and something was mentioned about bookcases.

I'm sure there is a minimum/baseline for opening a school but I'm really not sure who to ask.

Submitted one today to put the Washington service area Spectrum program at Madrona K-8.

This year I submitte a total of five program placement proposals:

1. Denny service area elementary Spectrum at Arbor Heights instead of West Seattle (the same proposal that I submitted last year).

2. Mercer service area elementary Spectrum at Kimball instead of Hawthorne. Kimball is larger, more central to the area, is the home of more Spectrum-eligible students, and has a better general ed population for co-housing with a gifted program (per APP review).

3. Create a new Montessori program at Roxhill. There are Montessori programs in the North, Central, and South but none in the West. There is no Option school in the Denny service area. Roxhill is central to the service area and has space available for a program.

4. Move north-end elementary APP to McDonald. The north-end program should be in the north-end according to District Policy C56.00. The APP locations should be distributed equitably around the district according to District Policy D12.00. McDonald has space and is in the feeder pattern for Hamilton.

5. Establish the Spectrum program for the Washington service area at Madrona K-8. It is more central to the service area than Muir. It would provide additional 6-8 Spectrum capacity in the service area for when Washington's Spectrum capacity is full. It will demonstrate Madrona's commitment to serving advanced students - which has been legitimately questioned.

Did anyone else submit a proposal?
