Prospective Students Encouraged to Apply for Academy for Rising Educators

From SPS Communications:

Created through a partnership of Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Central College, and the City of Seattle’s Seattle Promise scholarship, the Academy for Rising Educators (ARE) initiative is targeted at high school students in their junior and senior years who have an interest in the teaching profession.

Slated to begin in the summer of 2019, students will have the opportunity to take courses and participate in internships to complete the prerequisite requirements for a paraprofessional position in the district; earning a salary and full benefits.

One of the key highlights of ARE is that participants will be provided with hands-on opportunities to experience teaching and refine their practice. Once students have completed their Associates of Arts (AA) degree, they will enter the district’s Classified to Certified Program to fulfill the needs of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and teaching certificate, to return to the classroom with preferred hiring in Seattle Public Schools, serving and making a meaningful impact in their home communities. The program provides a directly supported — academic, social, and financial — pathway to a lifelong career in education with a starting salary range of $56K.

Applications for the program will be opening in the coming weeks. Those interested in the opportunity, who may be in high school or have graduated and are considering working as a paraprofessional with the Seattle Public Schools, are encouraged to fill out the Academy for Rising Educators interest form.

Individuals are encouraged to direct inquiries to risingeducators@seattleschools.org.
