This and That

There's a Town Hall tonight from 7-8:45 pm, to assist parents in making COVID vaccination decisions for their children. This looks good but they have waaaay too many speakers at 15(!) including the U. S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy.

The district has finally set a timeline for the homeless encampment at Broadview-Thomson, from My Northwest:

Now, the plan is to “fully transition the Bitter Lake encampment residents to shelter or housing by mid-December.”

“Thanks to our partnership with the City of Seattle, King County and Anything Helps, outreach teams have begun moving people into shelter or housing,” SPS Assistant Superintendent Bev Redmond told MyNorthwest. “Those efforts will increase by the middle of this month as new shelter resources become available.”

From that story it appears that SPS Communications has a new hire - Bev Redmond. Her LinkedIn page still says she works for a district outside Chicago but the the district has her as the Assistant Superintendent Public Affairs. I find no press release on her hire.

From our friends at the West Seattle Blog, COVID numbers:

This week’s update of COVID-19 cases in Seattle Public Schools shows an increase similar to a week earlier – 65 newly reported cases among the district’s 90+. schools, down a bit from the 68 new cases reported a week earlier.

So happy to see cumulative caseloads be quite small, when taken over a 2+ mo period, the vast majority of infections being for a population with good outcomes (children). Kind of underscores the madness of closing schools for so long last year. Republicans are running with the nonsense that is progressive control of education and cashing in at the polls.
