Superintendent Search Firm Seeks Input

The Board picked the firm of Hazard, Young and Attea Associates to do the search for a new superintendent for Seattle Public Schools.

Here's a link to the survey (which I took so I would know what was in it).

One surprise for me is that they did not put in whatever kind of mechanism so you can't take it more than once (at least from the same machine).

I would say it takes about 10-15 minutes to take. They give no date for the end of the survey.

Their first question is:

Please rate the overall quality of education in the District.

They then ask for your reaction to about 10 different statements about SPS.

Some of the statements are head-scratchers like "District schools are safe." Safe as in the building? Safe as in protection from HIB? Safe as in LBGTQ issues?

Another one - Employees are held accountable to high standards. For what? Their outcomes? Their work behavior? And what does "accountable" mean? That word is a lazy education word if not explained.

Then there is the 12-statement section where you can only choose up to four answers to the question, "I would like the new superintendent to..."

I personally found it hard to pick just four but I did make sure "transparent communication" one of them.

And that's it except for an open-ended comment section at the end. They also put in a place to nominate a candidate.
