Seattle School Board Meeting Agenda - March 6, 2024

I perceive this could be a short meeting by the agenda listings.

First, there is a "State Auditor's Office Entrance Conference." I looked at the attached materials and I don't see any real info beyond what areas the Auditor's Office looked at for SPS.

Next, there are 20 people on the speakers list with a 10-person waitlist. Most of the stated topics are broad but seem to be about student mental health care as well as counselors.

The Consent agenda is short and contains the revisions to the Board policy on "Board Member Residency." It still does not tell directors to - once a year - state that they continue to live in the district from which they were elected. I do not think that is a lot to ask.

Then they will have a Work Session on the empty board seats. This may be the most interesting part of the meeting depending on what is mentioned.

According to the schedule at the website, video statements from the candidates were recorded last week and should be available some time this week. I'll put those up when they are at the website.

As well, the schedule reflects that on March 13th, the Board will have a "special meeting" to announce select/announce finalists for each seat. I would say for certain that for D2, there will be a narrowing down from 11 candidates to maybe 3-4. D4 has just 4 candidates so it's not clear if the Board would narrow that group down further.

After the Work Session,  there is the ever-tedious "Board Time-Use Evaluation."

What is concerning after that section it appears that the Board will no longer be having a "Board Director Questions and Staff Responses" section in the Board meeting agenda. If true, it's a real loss because there is then no way to know what directors are thinking about staff work.

I will not be able to blog live tomorrow night but will follow up on Thursday.

Any insight into multiple people raising urgent concerns about Rainier View/Anitra Jones or are you still a big supporter of Jones? I saw today there’s a public employee review on March 24, curious!
