Will They or Won't They? Will She or Won't She?
So the Superintendent's evaluation is today. I had forgotten that issue. This is done in an executive session so no public allowed. (I hope some reporters can get the info out of them.)
So will the Board hold her accountable? After all, that's the mantra in this district.
As for the will they? Will they give her a raise? I'd almost say, after they did last year, she might expect it. But we're in terrible economic times, how could that be justified?
If they do, will she accept? Or will she make the gesture to say, "I can't accept it with the economic distress our district is in and with so many teachers losing their jobs."

- She closed some schools and despite what people may feel about the process, we still had too many buildings for too few students. However, it was a lot messier than it had to be. Program-splitting (APP) , picking one school (Arbor Heights) to hold a program (school: Pathfinder) and then changing it to Cooper just pitted neighbor against neighbor, closing one school (Meany) and then lumping two fairly dissimilar program (NOVA and SBOC) together, ending Summit's program without real and valid reasons and now the building is even less full with the new JA and breaking promises made to communities and staff about closures.
- She completed more audits but went ahead with closing schools without an audit of alternative schools which would have further clarified the process.
- Special ed audit complete and hopefully we will see new progress on this front (even as we move to having more special ed in more schools to have more inclusion and more kids near home).
- Ability to listen? (insert sound of crickets)
- Responsive sometimes and not others - I've heard some parents say she answers e-mails but I haven't seen that. Now, I'm probably not her favorite person but I'm still a parent in the district.
- New SAP? Almost ready to go. Big plus but will it fit the bill?

Payzant is a former Supt. of Boston School District, and is connected to -- you guessed it -- the Broad Foundation. He too is a former graduate of their "Superintendent Academy" and now a coach there (http://www.broadacademy.org/news/press/2002-0204.html) and I believe he won a "Broad Award."

So we have a Broad Foundation person overseeing the evaluation of another Broad Foundation board member/graduate.
Talk about a conflict of interest.
How likely is it that Mr. Payzant will be objective and genuinely critical of Goodloe-Johnson?
Who arranged to have him come in to do this?
This is suspicious.
(And why can't our Board figure out how to do its OWN evaluation of the superintendent they hired, promoted and whose performance they have witnessed firsthand these past two years?)

Maybe I am just too cynical/paranoid.

I want to say a Thank you to all the Staff and Teachers who have worked hard to be apart of the District and to serve our Students, this year.
For those who may be getting laid off...may you quickly find a new and better paying job. And for those of you who will be returning thank you for your dedication.

Really unbelievable ain't it!
Goodloe-Johnson, awaiting a performance review of her own from the school board, said she feels pleased with the work she's done.
"I evaluate the performance of myself as well as my staff as pretty much an 'A,'" she said. "When you look at what we have accomplished over the last two years, while it's been painful. It's been very hard. "
Whose kids are those? Do they all have current signed FERPA forms?! We might have a lawsuit on our hands!
(I think that's what those forms we sign in September are for--authorizing use of photos and other records?)
If they are going to give her a raise perhaps they could actually follow board policy of introduction at one meeting and action at the next (unlike the sham last year).
“On Wednesday, Goodloe-Johnson also said she won't seek a raise this year.”
Phew. That's something, anyway. Good for her.
