Prop 1 - Seattle Youth Commission Video Makes the Point

The Seattle Youth Commission is a group of 25 Seattleites aged 13-19 who are appointed by the Mayor and City Council to connect youth to their elected officials. They produced this video to inform students about possible upcoming bus cuts in Seattle.

They are clearly saying they are losing or will lose bus service and provide info for each high school's state reps.

Unfortunately the video has been removed from that link "by the user". Anyone know where else we can see it??

The video was found to violate the City's ethics code so it was taken down. It will be re-edited and re-released. I am not surprised there was an issue with the video. The Seattle Youth Commission has been largely ignored by Mayor Murray and his staff. The kids have been doing the best they can with no advice or guidance.

HP, I have a child on this Commission as well and have been trying to reach someone there for weeks to say they have been given no guidance. I got a call from Rehwa last night. Please help me and reach out to Pedro Gomez. Can you please add your voice to mine?

Parent, who did you contact? Can you put their contact info up?

My son has been complaining for some time now how the Commission has been getting no guidance. The transition from McGinn to Murray has been very poor. The Commission box of supplies has disappeared. Their intern is not being paid. The intern can't access their tiny budget. They should be starting the process of recruiting new members to replace the seniors. Their website is terribly out of date. Murray's staff really dropped the ball on this one and it does not reflect well on Murray as far as the kids are concerned.

HP...Pedro Gomez is the head of all commissions I think. He is Rehwa's boss. Rehwa said this isn't supposed to be her job - she is an outreach person. She was only put in as a liason temporarily and says she "didn't know SOl had been so hands on." She said she had no idea that this commission was supposed to have an adult advisor. So there is no one in charge. I finally got his email and I got a response. He is the one we need to talk to. They have really abandoned this effort since Murray took over. We miss Sol Villareal very much. Please email your own experience! I have expressed ours. Pedro.Gomez@seattle.gov.

Thanks Parent!

I'll do that. Rehwa I guess showed up yesterday. My son said Sol was at every meeting but Rehwa he has only met once. My son said that they were told that Murray didn't have the staff to support the Youth Commission which upset my son since he believes Murray has way more staff than McGinn did and McGinn managed to staff it. Murray is not making any points with the Youth Commission which seems very short sighted on his part. The kids on the Youth Commission register to vote as soon as they can and they vote. Plus they are talk to other students.

It’s really very informative that I wanted ever, thanks for this.
