Franklin and Thurgood Marshall are in "shelter-in-place"

From SPS Twitter at about 2:30 p.m.:

Franklin HS and Thurgood Marshall Elementary are in shelter-in-place after shots were fired in nearby neighborhood. SPD looking for suspects.

Students were released on time when school ended.  For Thurgood students who normally walk home, parents were asked to come and pick them up.

Looks like the Seattle PD's Twitter has a few details. Specifically, it looks like the incident was at 28th and Holgate (a couple blocks from Thurgood Marshall) and was shots fired (as you said, Melissa), not a shooting (as some other early reports said).

Any word on whether SPS used emergency texting or robocall capability to notify families?
We got a robocall from Thurgood Marshall about 2:45.

I let Pegi McEvoy know about this service. I see Seattle private schools participate - why not SPS?

FlashAlert

I think phone texts would be a vital option in an emergency

I have FlashAlert for the private high school my son goes to and for SPS for my daughter. It lets you know about snow days.
