School Beat
I get my regular copy of the district newletter, School Beat. Imagine my surprise to learn that we now have an Interim Deputy Superintendent. That would be General Counsel Noel Treat. So now, the General Counsel is Ron English. (I never thought I'd write that sentence but life is strange that way.)
Mr. Treat is to serve in this capacity until June 30th. There is no explanation why this appointment is necessary. I'd have to go back and check but I don't think we have had a deputy superintendent since Mona Bailey (and I think that was the '80s).
We also have an Interim Director of Capital Programs, Doug Nichols. Now I know that COO, Pegi McEvoy is now also Facilities head so what does that leave former Facilities head, Bill Martin, to do?
The Seattle Special Education PTSA is honoring two educators; Maki Ichikawa at B.F. Day and Carlen Luke, a teacher at Stevens at their May 17th meeting.
Graham Hill Elementary is newly certified as a Washington Green School at Level 1. Good for them.

Two Ingraham teachers have very nice accomplishments listed...buried way, way, way down in the bottom of the "Staff Celebrations" section.
Maggie Rose was named the King County "Earth Hero" for her work on sustainable agriculture.
Peter Schurke won the Air Force Association's Washington State Teacher of the Year award.
Heaven forbid you advertise that teachers in your district are winning any sort of major prize or award!
Oh...wait....it's at Ingraham. Aren't we trying to can their principal there so we can slide in our hand-picked crony? Bury that story!!!
Signed,
A Frustrated Ingraham Teacher
We are Ingraham.
We are legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Expect us.
I shudder at the thought of Ron English with any more power than he already had. He is generally hated by every elected official and city staffer. Not so good if the plan is to have the City do the District's ethics work with English as the connection.
As for Noel Treat, rememember who is wife is and what corporate agenda she was pushing.
Now, who is advising the district as they do things like try to fire long term principals?
Waiting to see what shoe drops next.

The Seattle Special Education PTSA will recognize outstanding educators and volunteers - and an outstanding school - with PTSA awards at its May 17 meeting. The award recipients are:
• Outstanding Educator: Maki Ichikawa, B.F. Day Elementary; and Carlen Luke, Stevens Elementary
• Golden Acorn (Outstanding Volunteer): Joyce Israel and Linda Scott
• Outstanding School for Best Practices in Building an Inclusive School Community: John Rogers Elementary
signed: John Rogers Mom
Well, so much for Noel Treat charging in on his white steed and cleaning house. Hardly seems possible but I think things actually got seamier.
Mr Ed
but, but, but....Isn't that the program that the District is dismantling piece by piece. So, we have "best practices," but we don't do it that way anymore?
Can anyone explain?
Bing, bing, bing! You win the prize! It would be bizarro world but for the tragedy...
Mr. Ed
Ron English is corrupt and gtes kick backs from contractors.
Not to get all cynical on ya but the D.A., the PA, the Attorney General, they could give a flying f*ck what we say. You could give them the smoking gun with the perp's prints and tell them where the body's at, and they would put you on interminable hold.
Ron English has tried to prevent the disclosure of public records. He and Gary Ikeda sought to protect MGJ from conflict of interest inquiries. Sorry, but it's lawyers like them that cast an ethical cloud on the rest.
If the evidence is good, it's not that hard to get someone to listen. If they D.A. won't, then the ethics reporting system that was just set up, or the mainstream media. On the other hand, if it's just innuendo, it's very hard to get anyone to listen...

I'm not in love with Mr. English by any means. But as far as I know none of those things are illegal or beyond the scope of what a lawyer should be helping his client with.
