Advanced Learning Update (to come)

Today the Advanced Learning Programs Task Force is having a meeting (from 4:15-6:15 pm at JSCEE, room 3802 - yes, you can attend).   Our long-awaited decision on a draft recommendation for a location for APP elementary north will be coming out (and wordsmithed).

Frankly, things have been slow and not-so-steady.  I am hoping that with a new facilitator (the last one left us), we will get more done.  I was a little surprised to see on the agenda an item for "introduction of new participants" so I look forward to finding out what that means.

I believe this will be the last meeting to include Cathy Thompson, head of Teaching and Learning, as she is leaving the district.

Updates to come after the meeting.

Thanks for the update Melissa. I have reviewed the materials etc on the SPS website. The work seems to be APP focused (from an outside view at any rate).

Will the recommendation also address issues to Spectrum and ALO?

I would also appreciate some real focus on the Spectrum program, especially at the middle school level. There is no online or real community for Spectrum parents and I feel that our children are short-changed, especially as many of them could handle the APP curriculum at middle school and would benefit from it.

Please do not forget those students with APP-level academic needs that desperately want to stay at their neighborhood schools through a robust Spectrum/ALO program.

The last facilitator left? Why was that? Can't contain my curiosity, details please.
I think she left because of a scheduling conflict; we weren't really told why. She was a nice person.
