Middle School - "Iron-Gated Prison"?

Had to pass this on - the topic for This American Life on KUOW at 11 am tomorrow (10/13), will be...middle school.

It's a tough age and, for parents, the shortest period of time that your child will spend at any one school.

And, in the old days, if you wanted to spread a rumor about someone, you had to make phone call after phone call (not that I ever did).

Now, it's post it on Facebook and the whole WORLD will hear about it.  I honestly can't imagine seeing a personal lie printed where the whole world can see it when you are just 12 years old.

Port Coquitlam teen driven to death by cyberbullying

Talk to your children NOW! There are MANY resources online for parents, educators and students about bullying. Please do your research and make sure your child's school is passing along the message of no-tolerance for bullies, anwhere, anytime.

It is one of the many reasons I love the K-8 model that Pinehurst K-8 is providing my daughter. Currently a second grader, I choose this school for this reason. Now I am working to fight their proposal to basically eliminate our school and potentially sever our K-8 neighbor Jane Addams in the process. http://www.SavePinehurst.org
