Word Verification Back On

I put word verification back on because I read the blog comments on Google Reader and I am tired of scrolling through hundreds of spam posts selling Tramadol online to find the few real posts.

Hope this works.

I think it may have worked. I don't see any spam on Google Reader since the time you posted this. If so, HALLELUJAH. Bye-bye Uggs, tramadol, and Louis Vuitton!

Charlie -- of all the word verifications I have encountered, the one here is THE hardest to decipher! The "typed word" half is usually not too hard -- but the other half, the "picture" half -- is a total crap shoot. On the other hand I read the comments directly from the blog (and not through Google Reader) so I have never had the problem. Sounds very annoying for those of you who go that route. It would be great though if there were a way to choose a less cryptic, illegible word verification that still works!

Since most people appear to come to the site directly and don't use Google reader and word verifier is extremely challenging on this setting, would you reconsider that choice?

By the way, if you have a Google account and log in with it, then you don't have to do the word verification thing.

I use gmail and I get the spam. I'd rather get the span than have to deal with this hellish captcha. And by the way, I still got spam last night on Tuesday's open thread from "Alice" with the first line "lunettes de soleil Adidas." That is weird!

My naturopath prescribes my Tramadol, but perhaps the online versions are stronger?

My spell checker doesn't like word verification.
Lets see if I can get it to work this time.

I am signed on to my Google account and it's not letting me post without doing the captcha. Is there something I should be doing differently?

I don't understand why you're getting spam if you see the feed but not if you read the site. Sounds like a serious problem with blogger.com. Blogger.com's captchas are way too hard, it's taking me 5 or 6 tries even when I look hard at it.

One more reason to prefer Wordpress over Blogger. I was really hoping to see a change to Wordpress during the last makeover, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

The nice thing with Wordpress is that there are so many options available; if something doesn't work the way you like there are usually other options available to achieve your goal. Added bonus: it's not google.

Spamming is bad but i swear Captcha is worse! I have defeated them by downloading a captch bypass browser extenison called rumola to type them in for me (you can get it in the chrome store!) but, if i have to enter them manually i really struggle.
I agree with the last poster about wordpress. It really works very well with its spam filter. I switched a while ago and it was definitely worth it.

The speaker list is up for the Board meeting tomorrow; not as packed as I thought with just four people on the waitlist. The majority of the speakers are speaking on high school boundaries (with several wanting to talk about Ballard High). Breaking It Down: Where the District Might Close Schools

Update 2: an absolutely fabulous interactive map made by parent Beth Day (@thebethocracy on Twitter - she covers Board meetings and is fun to read).   end of update    Update 1: Mea culpa, I did indeed get Decatur and Thornton Creek mixed up. Thanks to all for the correction. end of update   I suspect some who read this post will be irate. Why do this? Because the district seems very hellbent on this effort with no oversight skid marks from the Board.    To clearly state - I do not believe that closing 20 schools is a good idea. I think they hit on 20 because they thought it might bring in the most savings. But the jury is still out on the savings because the district has not shown its work nor its data. MEETING CANCELED - Hey Kids, A Meeting with Three(!) Seattle Schools Board Directors

 Update 2: So I have seen a message from President Liza Rankin on why she, Director Evan Briggs, and Director Michelle Sarju backed out of this meeting.  In a nutshell: - She says there was no organization to the meeting which is just not true. They had a moderator lined up and naturally the board members could have set parameters for what to discuss, length of meeting, etc. All that was fleshed out. - She also claimed that if the meeting was PTA sponsored, they needed to have liability insurance to use the school space. Hello? PTAs use school space all the time and know they have to have this insurance.  - She seems to be worried about the Open Public Meetings law. Look, if she has a meeting in a school building on a non-personnel topic, it should be an open meeting.
