Exercising Thought

Does this ever happen to you?

You are doing something that involves a lot of concentration and/or effort so you aren't aware of thinking.  Then later, you realize you HAD been thinking about something all along.

So it was today after I got done exercising.  I saw a friend who said, "Well, what about Enfield?"  We chatted a bit and parted.

As I walked back to my car, I realized that I had been thinking about Dr. Enfield, Bellevue and our own district.  So I have a couple of questions:

- if Bellevue asked Enfield to come on-board within a month, would you be okay with that?
- or do you think she should stay until June?
-if she left, Deputy Superintendent Noel Treat would be the most likely interim until a new person was selected.

I just wonder if maybe she is more of a lame-duck than just an interim and maybe if she wanted to go and the Board was willing to release her from her contract, if that would happen.

as long as:

1. she wants those "Discovering ..." horrible math books,

2. I can help pack her car with the horrible books for her ride across I-90.

so long.

Enfield is a quitter. Let her go. She will likeliy try and pull dollars out of our classroom.

She is Seattle's Sara Palin.

Are you serious? Try spending a day teaching--and then realize how irrelevant she (or any other power hungry politician) really is to what is important.

She obviously is not committed enough to or interested in the challenge. Goodbye...

Frankly, I'm a lot more concerned with the dissed special education director and special education administrative staff - that was NOT hired as special education director - even when NO OTHER candidates were hired in their stead. Nobody from SPS was hired and no other candidates were found either. Talk about lame ducks. They are completely lame and publicly shown a vote of no confidence. Can't be good for all those students, especially all those transitioning into non-existent programs. Good luck with that!

Call me ridiculous (or paranoid) but one condition, if leaving before the end of her "term", had certainly better be that there be no "departing gifts".

WV thinks it's time that Enfield "reineth" over another district.

Well, I have no problem with that scenario frankly - but it begs the question - she was one of the finalists last time around - if she is such a "catch" - why didn't they pick her the first time around? Hmmm....

I don't think it makes much difference whether we have lame-duck Enfield or interim Treat.

Regarding the Special Ed Director position not being filled:

Here's the ultimate irony:

In Cathy Thompson's letter to staff explaining why no hire was made, she says Dr. Enfield felt the position was so important that they couldn't hire from the available candidates and rather a national search should be done!!!

Ha!! And yet she wanted the super's position handed to her on a silver platter with no search, no interview!

There are so many examples of irony in this district it makes your head spin.

So what did happen to the special ed director, anyway? I have no idea what story is about that, just that she is still here somewhere, and someone even more questionable is in her place as "interim" sped director?

As I see it the Superintendent is already a lame duck. I would say if she takes the job in Bellevue it is only a matter of time before she screws up and is run out. I giver her maybe a year.

Bellevue has money and are not going to take any crap and miss management like she did in Seattle.

In reference to Noel Treat becoming the interim person, nothing would surprise me at this point. It does seem that the Cool Ade drinkers are advocating for the devil we know rather then the one we don't know.

I do not know how much more Noel would have to screw up to be a screw-up, but he was the same person whom was legal counsel and got promoted. Usually you don't get a better job when you are as stupid and useless as a 3 legged blind dog.

In closing the folks on this blog will spend their time supporting the worst person imaginable.

I challenge you Melissa, I encourage you to argue for a month your position without flip flopping a solid argument about the public schools. Every time you get cornered on an issue you always run the other way scared. You sick your lap dogs on them.

Step up and be bold, give us valid arguments and reasons. Don't just attack and run the other way. I will put forth $20 you can't stay in line and argue your point validly for a month.

Lastly, why does Save the Seattle Schools always attacks minority schools and not the failing white schools? I am also puzzled by your double standard, you and Charlie marginalize minority children.

I have often wondered that if Rainer Beach is so bad, why don't you Charlie help them. Raise money for Saturday School, or volunteer your time and mentor the kids. If they need help, help them. Saying is not helping.

Unlike you, I understand a positive education is effecting everyone. We need a smart and educated future. No matter what race or ethnicity they are. Unlike you Charlie I am not an elitist. I believe in empowering young people to make up their own minds.

Sincerely,
Nick Esparza

Nick, your antipathy overshadows any (valid) arguments you put forth.

Wow, Nick that was a pretty incredible rant. Like maybe you had a little too much last night and lost your good sense. If those are your true feelings that came out here last night, I'm very thankful that you didn't gain any traction in your election.

I agree with Mr. Ed.

As just a casual reader of this blog, I am very puzzled by your note, Nick Esparza - I have never read a single post or comment from Melissa or Charlie that could be called elitist or that marginalized minority children - just the opposite, actually! What are you referring to? Your comment is very surprising to me

Read "Charter School" and then send $20 to Melissa.

I think I understand the passion driving his comments. They were not well said, Nick, and I disagree with several of them. But I hear the heart and know that it comes from a courageous and caring place. You want what so many of us want and can't seem to get for all kids: front-line help in the schools; reasonable class sizes for different populations; less money on administration; and passion from all communities for all communities.

I think that's what I hear in your voice.

The number one thought people ought to exercise is the over funded Central Admin. beast that destroys kids futures. Instead many accept it as the status quo.

Poor school children of Seattle.

Noel Treat is so unqualified for the job his only hope is to rise SE's coattails to the east side.

"[Enfield] is Seattle's Sarah Palin."

Let's get real people. I don't like a lot of things Enfield has done, and I can see why some people would think she should go sooner rather than later. But comparing her to Palin is ridiculous. Whatever else you may say about her, she's and articulate and intelligent person.

I think that Susan Enfield should be gone. It's damaging to have her speaking out with Michael DeBell as her sidekick. Very unprofessional on both of those people's parts.

BTW, Susan fell through the trap door in Bellevue when she couldn't answer what math curriculum they used at Evergreen SD where she had been working as assistant superintendent for the previous 3 years.

I hope we can appoint a new interim and be gone with her and 2 more years of Michael DeBell is far too many if he's going to continue acting inappropriately. Censuring, at least, would be going the right direction to perhaps tone him down.
