Special Education PTSA Meeting Tonight

The Seattle Special Education PTSA will hold a SECOND March meeting tonight at the JSCEE auditorium from 7-9pm. 

Our guests include SPS' new Manager of Behavioral Health David Lewis. We've asked him to talk about the district's implementation of its multi-tiered system of supports for social-emotional needs (MTSS-B). Hope to see you there.

I think Seattle Schools has neglected to look closely into this man's background. He may be trained in child psychology but what is he truly using his training for. I am very uncomfortable with this man in the public sector.

I've known and worked with David for over ten years, and unlike the person (1 of 3 people) who created a profile just to slam someone who helps tens of thousands of people; he has a life and doesn't respond or entertain keyboard cowards like this insecure person who has nothing to do with there time. David has to deal with people from all over the state and country trying to get something from him for their own benefit. When they don't get what they want, they post cowardly content such as the previous one. I was googling him to give his Linkedin page to someone and found this ridiculous post (and his educational background is Clinical Psych; not child psychology) Go get a life or you will have thousands of people who love him on your a**!

Finally saw him present the other day at Hale auditorium after not being able to attend or get a seat on other dates. David is bringing content into the field of education that no one has ever done before. I'm two years away from retirement and have never seen anyone with his skill of delivering extremely high level content in such a way that you leave with a definite understanding. Hopefully the district doesn't burn him to a crisp as I'm sure his email and phone is on fire right now. He definitely lived up to and exceeded the hype. If he sticks around there will be a generation of children and people who benefit from the work he is doing.

This dude is FILTHY! The total package of a public person and presenter. This guy was repeatedly breaking down highly complicated concepts related to people and society like no one I've ever seen. Thanks for being in our area Puget Sound area David! You've helped me understand things greatly and I can't stop thinking about some of the things you said. Salut

David is great but good luck getting to see him! He has pulled back on larger presentations and rarely presents at conferences anymore. We saw him in San Diego a year ago. He told our district leaders on Friday that he has a 2 year waitlists for districts to work with him. We are in Sacramento. Does anyone know if he is offering anything to the public in the Seattle area this year?

He had an interview with my friend from Seattle Magazine last week and stated that he has a vast appearance schedule for 2019. She also said he seems very shy in person even though you wouldn't know it based on seeing him presenting somewhere. He said in the interview that a documentary he appears in will be coming out in Spring of 2019. Check his LinkedIn people, he often has public presentations and appearances up to date on there when asked how people can know where to attend events.

This dude killed it at U Cal a couple of weeks ago! Is he even for real! Is there a way that people can readily access him for events? We could really use his work here in Northern California. Please help, he is very hard to get a hold of. Seattle Schools screen and filter everything before giving accessing him.

The speaker list is up for the Board meeting tomorrow; not as packed as I thought with just four people on the waitlist. The majority of the speakers are speaking on high school boundaries (with several wanting to talk about Ballard High). Breaking It Down: Where the District Might Close Schools

Thanks to all for the correction. end of update   I suspect some who read this post will be irate. Why do this? Because the district seems very hellbent on this effort with no oversight skid marks from the Board.    To clearly state - I do not believe that closing 20 schools is a good idea. I think they hit on 20 because they thought it might bring in the most savings. But the jury is still out on the savings because the district has not shown its work nor its data. MEETING CANCELED - Hey Kids, A Meeting with Three(!) Seattle Schools Board Directors

 Update 2: So I have seen a message from President Liza Rankin on why she, Director Evan Briggs, and Director Michelle Sarju backed out of this meeting.  In a nutshell: - She says there was no organization to the meeting which is just not true. They had a moderator lined up and naturally the board members could have set parameters for what to discuss, length of meeting, etc. All that was fleshed out. - She also claimed that if the meeting was PTA sponsored, they needed to have liability insurance to use the school space. Hello? PTAs use school space all the time and know they have to have this insurance.  - She seems to be worried about the Open Public Meetings law. Look, if she has a meeting in a school building on a non-personnel topic, it should be an open meeting. It appears that Rankin is trying, over and over, to narrow the window of access that parents have to Board members. She even says in her message - "...with decisions made in public."
