Please Do - GIVE BIG on Tuesday

Once again, it is that one day a year when the Seattle Foundation has its Give Big campaign.  This year it's Tuesday, May 5th (Cinco de Mayo).  Last year they raised $12.8 million for Greater Seattle's nonprofits.

How to Give

FAQs

The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live. The people behind these organizations, those who work tirelessly to improve the lives of everyone in Greater Seattle, are champions. GiveBIG is a day to support their championship-worthy work.

Each online donation* made to the 1,600 nonprofit organizations profiled on The Seattle Foundation’s website between midnight and midnight (Pacific Daylight Time) on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, will receive a prorated portion of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. The amount of the “stretch” depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. As long as you have an Internet connection (or access to the Internet on your mobile phone), you can participate! And it doesn’t matter if you give a dollar or a $1,000, every contribution makes you an MVP.

In 2014, the stretch pool was $1,000,000 and the total amount of stretch-eligible donations was $12,800,000. The stretch percentage worked out to 8.3% (or approximately 8 cents on the dollar).

Throughout the day, we’ll be giving away GOLDEN TICKETS. Donors will be chosen at random from all donations made up to the time of the drawing. The winner will have an additional $1,000 given in their name to the same charity that received their donation.

Groups are in categories like Basic Needs, Neighborhoods, Arts, Education, Environment, etc.   Under Education I see these worthy groups: Seattle Education Access, Pacific Education Institute, League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund, ArtsEd Washington, United Negro College Fund, Technology Access Foundation, and Treehouse.

BIG, big thanks to their main partners - KING 5 TV, Seattle Sounders, Seattle International Foundation, Wyncote Foundation NW, Microsoft and many others.

Please give BIG - it's tax-deductible and really stretches those donation dollars.
