Steven W. Enoch

  • Enoch has also worked in the private sector as executive director of a large educational seminar and conference organization.
  • Married with grown children.
  • Announced March 28th, 2012 that he was retiring from the San Ramon Unified School District.   From the San Ramon Valley Times:  Enoch said he plans to continue to be involved in education. He is interested in the challenges of urban education, leadership development, global learning connections, high school reform, and changing classrooms through technology.
  • Letter to parents about budget cuts
  • From San Ramon Valley Unified School District: Academically, SRVUSD currently ranks 6th among all unified school districts in California, and is the highest ranking unified school district in the state with enrollments of 9,000 or more (California Academic Performance Index, 2008). Over 94% of our graduating seniors attend college or university, and district students are accepted into the University of California and the California State University systems at rates far exceeding state averages. Furthermore, the district has been recognized for its excellence through such honors as the coveted State Department of Education's Distinguished Schools Award (schools in the district have received this honor more than 50 times, more than any other district in northern California), and through recognition by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools.  The district has a wide range of state and federally-mandated special education programs. The district's Inclusion Program is a model in the state.
  • San Ramon Valley Education Foundation
  • His salary was about $240k and since he is retiring, he would likely be receiving a California state pension as well as an SPS salary.

Ok, I'm confused. Was Enochs sending that letter from the San Juan Unified SD (California) or the San Juan Island SD? No mention of the former in his bio.
The letter was from the California district.

Okay, I see. He was supt at BOTH the San Juan Island SD AND the San Juan Unified SD. Hmmm, I wonder how many years at the various districts...

I find these meetings minutes reveal a collaborative working relationship b/w Supt and Board.

SRVUSD board meeting minutes

I liked the mention of low ratio of administrators to everyone else.

If Mr. Enoch could bring the San Ramon Valley/CA curriculum standards to Seattle, I would be one happy parent.

The district site references the state standards (they actually seem to follow them), and supporting texts look solid. They have texts for every subject and every grade, and no signs of fuzzy math.

Board members say:

“Steve has been an incredible leader for this district, and will be very hard to replace,”...

..."I will miss him."

Thanks for digging out those minutes.

How awesome would it be to have the Superintendent give a presentation to the Board about comments received from the public?

Why is the fact that San Ramon Unified SD has "a wide range of federally mandated special education programs" highlighted in red? All school districts do. That's the "federally mandated" part. What's the big deal?

Which Board Director was quoted as wanting a new Sup. that would be at the end of their career?

Read the quote, just don't recall who it was.

Wonder if they were referring to Mr. Enoch?

Sped, I sometimes call out key words to help readers. It meant nothing else.

It would seem that someone at the end of his career, couldn't care less about the Frank Greer's and Jon Bridge's on line two. He won't need and couldn't care less about getting a letter of recommendation like MGJ got from the Alliance. Perhaps he would keep in perspective the wants of the Masters of the Universe, versus the needs of his students and staff.

From the Valley Sentinel article:

“Some have said I should not leave because the work is not yet done. What we know is that this work is never done. I feel confident however, that the energy and commitment to prepare students for their future, not our past, is in our schools and classrooms, which is where it should be,” Enoch said

I like that. He won't think the SPS world doesn't revolve around JSCEE.

Board Decides to Maintain Class Sizes
Valley Sentinel

Danville – The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved a recommendation to maintain existing class sizes in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade at 26 students, while lowering class size in 9th grade English and Math classes from 28 to 26.

“I am very pleased that we are able to avoid increasing class sizes for the coming year and that our Board members agreed that this is the best decision for students and teachers,” said Superintendent Steven Enoch.

The recommendation from the district was made based on better-than-projected State revenues, continuing enrollment growth, and financial reserves.

Aiy yi yi, love those double negatives...

Yes, but mirmac1, you get points for correct use of "someone . . . couldn't care less. . . " -- which often gets mangled into "could care less" (when actually, it is clear that he couldn't) or even "he couldn't care more. . ." which makes my head hurt to try to parse. So -- kudos to you!
